For a bar to be almost completely empty on a Thursday night in the South Side is never a great sign. There were two regulars at the bar and neither they nor the bartender were particularly interested in us. The sign outside said, "Southside's best kept secret," and we guess they're right.
It's a huge multi-room place with pool tables, a bowling game from the 70’s, darts, and disgusting couches that you should never ever sit on. The men's room was particularly awful and the women's room wasn't that great either. There were wads of towel shoved into the hole in the door where the knob used to be. Not the best fix we've ever seen, but better than no fix at all.
Despite all this, we kind of liked it. The drinks were cheap and the bar was comfortable. It's definitely a dive, don't get us wrong about that, but it's a dive that we might give a second try.

Come out to St. James on a Tuesday night! Best karaoke in the city :)
ReplyDeletePS, the kitchen is out of commission due to some HVAC issues. But it was awesome when it was in business (great wings especially).
Just try to use the bathroom before you come out and hold it until after you leave (well, the men's room at least, ladies' room is passable).
