Birmingham Bridge Tavern

The "BBT" (not to be confused with the one in Bloomfield) is a great hidden gem of the South Side.  It's off the beaten East Carson path enough that it seems to avoid the same level of obnoxiousness normally associated with most of those bars.  It has a rustic, cozy, sports bar feel and we felt right at home there.

The downstairs bar is a nice size and comfortable.  They have a fantastic beer selection and knowledgeable staff.  It's definitely a Pens game bar with drink specials and shot specials for goals.  What really set this place apart for us, though, was the quality of their food.  It's an extensive menu of plain old bar food, but of the highest caliber.

We were there on wing night and the wings were certainly hot and crispy and flavorful.  The fried pickles, also delicious.  But, the thing that we almost made ourselves sick eating were the garlic parmesan fries They're obviously fresh cut fries and they are kind of like the devil coated them in garlic and butter and cheese and then put them in a bucket in front of you and then laughed as you ate them.  Mmmmmmm.....

There is also an event space upstairs which has a large open room and a separate bar.  There was a painting and drinking event going on when we were there which inspired us to buy a Groupon to do the same!  "A" was also upstairs for a "cocktails for a cause" event with the lovely and talented Tiffany Hickman, where he ran into the great bartender from Excuses! (Update: her arm was better.)  Pittsburgh is such a small town.

All-in all, great bar.  We will be back...next year...after we have gone to all the other bars.

(Side note:  If you read this, please help us with the cause of calling The Birmingham Bridge Tavern the BBT instead of the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern.  We like this bar much better and saying the Birmingham Bridge Tavern is a mouthful.  OR, maybe we can come up with a new nick name: "The Birm", "The Bridge"...leave much better suggestions below.)
