The focus of the Beerhive is obviously beer, but they do have a limited liquor selection as well. It's a pretty impressive beer selection, but not more than you would find at D's in Regent Square, Birmingham Bridge Tavern, or Hough's. As beer drinkers, it’s great to have so many bars that really care about their selection, but the Beerhive doesn't come out on top of the list. They've got a pretty nice looking menu of bar food, but, again, nothing to go out of your way for.
So, what else do they have? They have the strangest and longest bathroom that J's ever been in. It’s clean and everything, just strange enough to note. They have a really aggressive color scheme, we can tell you that much. The black and yellow fits with their hive theme and, obviously, they're in Pittsburgh so those colors are always appropriate. It’s really pretty unpleasant to look at though. According to a Google search for color psychology (what amounts to science around these parts), all that yellow is fatiguing to the eye and can make you feel frustrated and angry. And, truthfully, A and J did have a bit of a heated disagreement in this bar.
There is nothing wrong with the bar, but we don't think we'll be back there. It could be the unpleasant color scheme. It could be the location. Either way, it just didn't wow us.
