Why so much hate? It is a huge bar with a great
beer selection and a pretty good menu. It has a very long nice bar,
booths, tables and a back room for large parties. It is a
nice space. Which is all well and good, but space itself is
what not makes a good bar.
The problems with Hemingway's are the people who go to Hemingway's
and the bartenders. The bartenders are normally ditzy scantily-clad
college girls. It's a Pitt version of Hooters. If that’s what draws
you to a bar, you are probably a misogynistic pig. Yes we are judging. Don't
get us wrong, even without the bartenders, this place would still probably
be filled with dickbags. The bartenders just add to the problem.
People in college think they are special and they are in a way. We
certainly were the most special snowflakes ever in our day. But you can't go
back and you don't really want to linger there, and after a while it all seems
really silly. But you can't tell that to the people who are currently there,
which are the people at Hemingway’s. Special silly snowflakes.
Lastly, Hemingway's is filled with the newly 21 which is annoying,
to us at least. We don't want to drink with them and we are pretty sure they
don't want to drink with us. From this point on, we will be happy to oblige
them. Except there are still more bars to review in Oakland. Crap.
