Finn McCools

It was a dark and stormy night when we wandered into an Irish sports bar dedicated to a bad-ass Irish warrior, who gained his wisdom by tasting...the Salmon of Wisdom.  No shit

We aren’t quite sure what to make of this place. It’s huge. It has really nice woodwork, and a long bar with lots of additional seating. There are couches and plush chairs. There is also a really creepy mural.

The night we were there, it was occupied by a bunch of older men drinking beers and playing Metallica. We’re pretty sure that this is not the normal state of affairs for this bar.

We did have a nice talk with the bartender, who was kind enough to offer us tastes of their blue raspberry slushy. It gave us both brain freeze.  J's happened after she made fun of A’s brain freeze, so it was especially fun for A. They were good enough for slushies. They also have a red bull slushy, to which you can add your choice of alcohol. Apparently, the freezing point of red bull is a tricky thing to work with.

At any rate, it is a nice bar. A has watched hockey games there, and it has a great atmosphere for high-fives and yelling at the TV. So, don't avoid this place. It is ok. We are sure that it is packed and terrible on the weekend, but you made the choice to go to the South Side on the weekend. You already knew what you were getting into, and probably like that kind of thing.

  1. Having a baddass Irish warrior whose last name was "McCool" is a boon to uninspired sports bar/Irish pubs all across America!

  2. First time I commented on blog but I do use it as resource for every bar in Pittsburgh I have never been to. I do want to stick up for Finn's weekend because it does not get terrible and packed on the weekend. And it's probably the cheapest place to drink drafts on a Friday night. Also the perfect pregame spot for any shows at the Rex. Keep up the good work.

    1. Thanks! Glad to be of service.

Good to know that Finn's doesn't get as bad as other places on the weekends, it's a nice place and we could definitely see going back there.
