Only in Shadyside would Cappy's
be considered a dive bar and yet that's how it's referred to in all kinds of
reviews and on Yelp. Make of that what you will. It might be a dive bar compared
to the other bars on Walnut Street, but to the rest of the world, it's just a
regular bar.
There's really not a lot to say about Cappy's. It only stands out in contrast to the more upscale/expensive bars of Walnut Street. It's on the small side and has a definite sports bar feel. It looks like it hasn't been updated in years. The bathrooms are a little more along the lines of what you’d expect from a dive bar. They’re old, hard to get to, poorly laid out, and there was a giant booger wiped across the back of the stall door in the ladies room.
The bar is clean and the lights
are bright without being obnoxious. The drink prices are cheap for Shadyside,
but average for most neighborhoods. It has a small and cramped seating area on
the sidewalk and the food there is not terrible. If you happen to stop by on a
weeknight in the summer it is a good place to grab a seat outside and watch the
scenery.
