Stack'd

This troubled location has been many things over the years. Most recently, it was The Field House, before that it was a lounge called Alto, the location obviously has some issues. It is right above the Pittsburgh Deli Company in Shady Side, up a very steep flight of steps. With the re-branding of the space as Stack'd, there might finally be a long-term tenant.

Full disclosure, A uses this as his "guys night" go-to bar and has for years. He is hesitant to review it, given that it has already gotten more crowded with the re-branding. It is great for the owner (who is a really nice guy btw), but bad for guys night watching sports. However, we will try to give it a fair review. J has no attachment to this place and is severely irritated by its name. What’s your problem with the letter E, Stack’d?

This is a sports bar. There are as many TVs crammed in there as is humanly possible. There are seven around the bar, one at each booth and a couple back in the seating area. You are going to be able to see whatever event you are trying to watch, even if you are trying to watch two things at once.

There is a big horseshoe bar with ample seating, which is what you want in a sports bar. The bar area is clean and spacious, with a giant two-story roof over it. The decor is what you would expect from a sports bar, full of Pittsburgh themed awesomeness. There is also a tiny room for Foosball and a bubble hockey game, which you don't come across very often and is a fun novelty from time-to-time.

The food is definitely above average. It’s actually bordering on very good, but it’s still just bar food. You get a card with a checklist and you build your own burger anyway you want. Toppings range from Fritos to peanut butter to a fried pierogie!

For the college crowd, they have giant fishbowls full of booze with huge straws sticking out of them. So, if you and your friends are all sitting around thinking, wow, I wish I had a giant fishbowl full of booze we could all drink at once, this is your place.

All in all, this is a fine sports bar with good food, friendly service and slightly pricey drinks. “A” would like you to stay away so he can grab some bar seats with his boys and watch a game, but if you are in the area, you should definitely climb the stairs and build yourself a burger.
