Jack's marks the beginning of South Side proper if you’re coming up East Carson from downtown. It’s very visible with colorful neon lights behind block windows and giant banners full of blatant self-promotion. Nothing’s wrong with that, right? By the way, have you told your friends how awesome The Great Pittsburgh Bar Crawl is? You should! Get on that.
It was weird to hear, "Thank goodness we’re in Jack's," come out of our mouths as we walked in, but it was a huge relief after Rumshakers. We've got to say, we had a really good time there. The bar was comfortable to sit at, the bartender was friendly and informative, and there were some much needed free peanuts.
There are two separate bars at Jack’s, one when you come in and one through a corridor to the left. Apparently all the cool kids hang out in the back bar. We did not realize, we sat at the front bar.
The whole bar is covered in clever kitsch and self-promotion. The bartender engaged us and told us pretty much her entire life story. She was also a giant advocate for the bar. “It is the best bar,” she said. “Period.”
Our opinion of this place changed a bit after this visit. It went from, “We would never go there,” to, “We would never go there on a Thursday through Saturday night.” We are old people! Don't judge. We know it is an awesome place for you young and wild kids and we want you to have that. And stay right there.
